Important Changes to Your Microsoft Office Access

Dear Students,

Upon starting at PCHS, Microsoft provided all students with free access to Microsoft Office 365 A1 Plus for Education, which included web access and desktop installation of applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Microsoft recently retired the A1 Plus license and is moving all students to the free A1 license, effective November 19th. With the A1 license, students will have free access to the web only version of Microsoft 365 but will no longer have free access to install or use the desktop applications.

What This Means for You:

  • You’ll no longer have access to desktop versions of Office apps through your school account.
  • You can still use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint online at office.com.
  • After November 2025, any desktop Office apps linked to your school account will deactivate. You’ll be able to view files but not edit them.
  • OneDrive storage will be reduced to 100 GB.

If You Want Full Desktop Access:
Microsoft is offering a discounted Personal plan that includes desktop apps and 1 TB of OneDrive storage:

  • Free for 12 months, then 50% off (about $2.99 per month)
  • Available directly from Microsoft using your .edu email address

For questions or help accessing the web apps, contact IT Helpdesk.

Thank you for your understanding as Microsoft updates its education licensing.
